1. Our Commitment
Penguinboi Software is committed to making our products and services accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe everyone deserves to enjoy games, tools, and content without unnecessary barriers.
This statement applies to all Penguinboi Software web properties:
- penguinboisoftware.com — our main website, blog, and games portal
- PenguinRPG (penguinrpg.com) — AI-powered tabletop RPG toolkit
- Corgi Care (corgicare.penguinboisoftware.com) — virtual pet browser game
- Hacking Slash — browser-based dungeon crawler
- PenguinClock — iOS time tracking app
- Trending — content moderation simulation game
2. Standards
We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines are organized around four principles — content should be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust for all users.
While we strive to meet Level AA across all our products, some interactive game content presents inherent challenges. We are transparent about these limitations and continuously work to improve.
3. Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features across our web properties:
Navigation & Structure
- Skip-to-main-content links — hidden links for screen reader users to bypass repeated navigation and jump directly to page content
- Semantic HTML — proper use of structural elements including
<nav>, <main>, <article>, <header>, and <footer> so assistive technologies can convey page structure
- ARIA labels — all interactive elements (buttons, links, form controls) have descriptive labels for screen readers
- Logical heading hierarchy — headings follow a consistent order (h1 through h6) to support document navigation
Visual & Motion
- Color contrast — text and interactive elements maintain sufficient contrast ratios against their backgrounds, meeting WCAG AA minimum requirements
- Reduced motion support — all animations, transitions, and decorative effects (aurora backgrounds, shooting stars, sliding mascot) are disabled when the user has enabled
prefers-reduced-motion in their operating system settings
- Alt text on all images — every meaningful image includes descriptive alternative text; decorative images are marked with
aria-hidden="true" so screen readers skip them
- No flashing content — no content flashes more than three times per second
Interaction & Input
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone, with visible focus indicators
- Enhanced focus states — custom focus outlines make it clear which element is currently selected during keyboard navigation
- Touch targets — buttons and links are sized for comfortable touch interaction on mobile devices
Responsive Design
- Flexible layouts — all pages adapt to different screen sizes, from desktop monitors to mobile phones
- Text resizing — content remains readable and functional when text is resized up to 200%
4. Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some parts of our products have accessibility limitations due to the nature of interactive game content:
Canvas-Based Games
- Hacking Slash and Trending are rendered using HTML5 Canvas (via the Phaser game engine), which has inherent accessibility limits. Canvas content is not directly accessible to screen readers.
- Some game mechanics require visual perception and motor interaction (e.g., navigating dungeons, clicking on game elements within time constraints).
- Corgi Care uses Flutter's CanvasKit renderer, which has similar limitations for assistive technologies.
Game-Specific Constraints
- The Penguin Jump mini-game on our homepage requires timed input (spacebar, click, or touch). It is disabled entirely when
prefers-reduced-motion is active.
- Game audio does not currently have captions or text alternatives.
- Some game instructions rely on visual cues that may not be conveyed to screen reader users.
We are actively working to improve game accessibility where possible, including providing text-based alternatives and ensuring non-game content remains fully accessible.
5. Feedback
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of Penguinboi Software products. If you encounter accessibility barriers, have suggestions for improvement, or need content in an alternative format, please contact us:
Email: penguinboisoftware@gmail.com
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days. When reporting an issue, it helps to include:
- The web address (URL) where you encountered the problem
- The assistive technology you were using (e.g., screen reader, magnifier, voice control)
- A description of the issue and what you expected to happen
6. Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time achievement. We are committed to:
- Regularly reviewing our products against WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria
- Addressing reported accessibility issues promptly
- Considering accessibility from the start when building new features and products
- Researching ways to make interactive game content more accessible
- Updating this statement as we make improvements
